6 PCA Cables Designed for Modern Data Centers

Proterial Cable America (PCA) manufactures highperformance cables that meet the demands of modern data center infrastructure. With the industry’s rapid growth, data centers require cables that can go longer distances, deliver higher data rates, and maximize space efficiency—these are the necessities of modern cabling for data centers and through fiber optics or hybrid power/data configurations, PCA is building solutions to support these needs.

Combining a tight bend radius, flexible armor, and a plenum-rated jacket, the NanoCore® Armored Plenum cable is perfect for data center needs including overhead tray runs and congested conduit paths. This fiber optic cable eliminates the need for conduit or inner ducts, cutting install time and labor costs. Available in both single-mode and multi-mode configurations, NanoCore® cables support critical backbone runs or equipment interconnects, delivering performance without sacrificing space. NanoCore Base-8 and Base-16 Micro Distribution Fiber – Built for Bandwidth Growth

Data centers need to be able to scale effectively and efficiently as bandwidth demands rise. PCA Base-8 and Base-16 fiber cables allow scalability from 10G to 40G, 100G or even 400G systems and higher, preparing networks for the future. These configurations minimize fiber waste, simplify transceiver compatibility, and are ideal for high-speed interconnects between switches, routers, and storage systems.  Designed with the increasing needs of cloud infrastructure and AI processing in mind, they’re a foundational part of PCA’s fiber optic cable offerings. Why it’s ideal:

  • Supports Base-8 and Base-16 architectures, which are common in high-speed hyperscale networks (like 400G, 800G deployments). While NanoCore® Micro Distribution focuses on maximizing fiber counts in small spaces, Base-8 and Base-16 architectures focus on optimizing high speed connection layouts.
  • Optimized for rapid deployment and scalability in dense data center environments.
  • Smaller cable diameter facilitates easier cable management and higher density.

NanoCore® Micro Distribution Multi-Unit Plenum Cables – Compact Fiber for Dense Builds

PCA’s NanoCore® Micro Distribution Multi-Unit Plenum Cables (Base-12) deliver high fiber counts in compact designs for space-constrained data centers. Designed for high-density environments, these cables feature a small outside diameter and reduced weight, helping maximize airflow and simplify cable management in crowded trays and racks.

Each cable is plenum-rated, making it safe for use in drop ceilings, raised floors, or any hidden space where air moves for ventilation or cooling. The construction is optimized for easy termination and flexible installation. Available in both single-mode and multimode, NanoCore® Micro Distribution cables support a wide range of data center applications—from equipment interconnects to backbone runs.

PCA’s Indoor/Outdoor Tight Buffered Plenum Cable is designed for data centers that require a seamless transition from outdoor pathways into interior equipment rooms. It can handle outdoor conduits or rooftops but is also plenum-rated for safe use in drop ceilings or raised floors, allowing fiber to run indoors without splicing.

Built with a UV-resistant jacket and bend-insensitive fibers, this cable performs reliably across harsh exterior environments and confined indoor pathways. Available in both single-mode and multimode, it supports a wide range of applications.

Power+™ Composite Fiber Cable – Power and Data in One Run

Combining fiber optics for high-speed data transmission and copper for power delivery, PCA’s Power+™ Composite Fiber Cable enables efficient installations where running separate cabling isn’t feasible. Ideal for applications like powering security cameras, wireless access points, digital signage or other remote devices. It also simplifies installations by extending PoE beyond standard limits, by saving space and reducing the need for additional equipment. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor environments, including plenum spaces and is available in various configurations to support a range of data center needs.

Class IV Power+ Hybrid Cables – High Voltage Meets High Data

As data centers deploy more edge devices and demand longer cable runs across larger facilities, the need for hybrid power and fiber configurations is growing. PCA’s Class IV-rated cables meet these needs by delivering both energy and data through a single, space-efficient solution. Unlike traditional hybrid cables, Class IV cables are UL-rated to 450V, support smaller AWG sizes for greater flexibility and are certified for plenum use, wet locations, and direct burial, and sunlight resistance making them ideal for distributed power and data systems across diverse environments.

Available with 2-12 fibers and up to 8 pairs of 12–16 AWG power conductors, PCA’s Class IV cables simplify installations while supporting edge devices and were designed for use with FMPS interconnect systems which monitor the power signal to deliver more power further, while also increasing fire and shock safety by instantly turning off when a fault is detected. This makes them ideal for next-gen applications like Digital Electricity.

These products combine high-voltage capability with integrated fiber for a safer, more streamlined approach to power and data delivery.
