Proterial » Heat Resistance
During the summer months, everything heats up. The hotter weather means that air conditioners are turned on, trips to a pool or the beach seem necessary, and sunscreen helps prevent us all from burning. But what about cables made by Proterial Cable America (PCA)?
Read on to learn how PCA cables are built to not only endure the summer temperatures but perform well in them.
Ambient temperature is the average temperature of any given environment. This differs from room temperature, which is determined as the temperature the average person feels comfortable in; ambient temperature can be any temperature, as long as it’s the average.
The concept is important when considering the impact on cables. However, when it comes to PCA, our cables are ready for the rising temperatures.
PCA Cu (Copper) premise and fiber optic cables can maintain their quality even if the ambient temperature rises above average levels.
Most materials face an issue when dealing with record high temperatures, but the compounds PCA uses don’t have those problems.
In fact PCA’s CAT 6A 10G XE UTP cable will work optimally unless if it is in weather over 167 degrees Fahrenheit (75°C), which is 33.9 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the hottest recorded temperature on Earth, which was 134.1 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley, California on July 10, 1913.
Even more reliable is the CAT 6 XS UTP cable, which will work in temperatures up to 194 degrees (90°C).
But this isn’t only true for copper premise cables. PCA’s Indoor/Outdoor Fiber Optic Cables are capable of working in weather up to 158 degrees (70°C).
Why are our cables so heat-resistant? The materials used in manufacturing are chosen for their ability to maintain stability under heat while remaining flexible and reliable.
What’s even more impressive is that PCA has gone beyond the industry standard. Standard Cu Premise cables are expected to withstand heat up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60°C), but our cables can handle more heat due to the high-performance materials we use.
For specific applications such as Aerospace, we can increase the temperature requirements all the way to 392 degrees Fahrenheit (200°C).
“We have a wide gamut of materials to choose from in order to provide the best performance in the field,” says Eduardo Garza, PCA-NH Director of Product Engineering.
It’s worth noting that in addition to our cables’ ability to resist high temperatures, they are equally reliable in cold weather.
Our Copper premise cables maintain their ability to work optimally in weather above -4 degrees (-20°C). Our indoor/outdoor fiber optic cables can withstand temperatures down to -40 degrees (-40°C).
PCA makes reliable cables regardless of the temperature. Contact us to help with cable installations that can withstand the summer heat, the winter chill and anything in-between.
