Frequently Asked Questions

RD stands for reduced diameter. The Supra 10G-RD is engineered with a smaller outside diameter (0.240″) compared to standard Category 6A cables. Reducing the OD allows up to 26% more cables to be pulled through the same conduit, meaning fewer conduit runs, lower labor costs, and more efficient use of existing pathways. This is especially valuable in retrofit projects or densely cabled environments like data centers, healthcare facilities, and open-plan offices. This reduction is made possible by Proterial Cable America’s proprietary Noise Control Barrierâ„¢ technology, which eliminates the need for the bulky splines or fillers commonly used in conventional Cat6A cable designs to manage alien crosstalk.

Traditional Category 6A UTP cables control alien crosstalk by using large separator splines or by increasing the cable’s outer diameter to create physical distance between pairs. The NCBâ„¢ uses a specialized Proterial Special Blocker Tape (MMAM Tape) that acts as a continuous barrier around the cable core, attenuating alien crosstalk without adding bulk. The result is a Cat6A 10G cable that meets or exceeds the ANSI/TIA-568.2-E electrical performance requirements while being meaningfully slimmer and lighter, without compromising signal integrity.

The Supra 10G-RD supports Power over Ethernet up to 100W (IEEE 802.3bt Type 4, also called 4PPoE). It has been UL Tested (LP) for thermal performance under sustained high-power PoE loads to ensure safety. This makes it well-suited for powering demanding devices such as pan-tilt-zoom cameras, wireless access points, digital signage, and thin clients.

Yes. The Supra 10G-RD is a low-smoke Category 6A cable rated for plenum installation. It features a low-smoke PVC jacket and a plenum-rated fluoropolymer star filler, meeting the fire and smoke propagation requirements for use in air-handling spaces as defined by the National Electrical Code and NFPA 262. Always verify local code requirements before installation.
