From Hitachi Cable America to Proterial Cable America – 35 Years of Innovation

For 35 years, Proterial Cable America (PCA), formerly Hitachi Cable America, has focused on quality, performance and precision.  Those goals are the same whether we’re engineering cables for data centers or CNCing metal parts for national defense systems, our name may have evolved, but our dedication has never wavered.

Working with vital and integral technologies, PCA uses advanced manufacturing skills, a constant focus on innovation and the best materials to produce products our customers can be confident in. Read on to learn where we came from, and how we’re excited to continue building in the future.

The Evolution Timeline

From our early days until now, PCA has consistently expanded our reach and found new ways to fulfill our customers’ cable and wire needs. Here’s a walkthrough of our journey, starting in 1986 and leading to our new name in 2023.

The Beginning (1980s, 1990s)

  • 1986 – Hitachi Cable Manchester was established on April 10, 1986, in Manchester, NH to manufacture electronic and communication cables.
  • 1987 – Hitachi Cable America Indiana site was established in September 1987.
  • 1994 – Hitachi Cable Querétaro (HCQ) was established in May 1994.

Continued Growth (2000s)

  • 2000 & 2009 – Due to increased production demand, HCQ expanded into larger facilities twice—first in 2000 and again in 2009.
  • 2004 - Machine shop established in 2004, originally called Hi-Tech Molds before being renamed Hi-Tech Machine and Fabrication. This shop would eventually become High-performance Defense Solutions.
  • 2008 – In March, Hitachi Cable acquired the Dana facility in Pensacola, FL, which became Hitachi Cable Florida.

Medical and Defense (2010s)

  • 2010s – During this decade, PCA expanded its medical and defense capabilities with the addition of the High Performance Medical Solutions (HPMS) and High Performance Defense divisions in Ashaway, RI.
  • 2011 – Hitachi Cable Indiana and Hitachi Cable Florida merged to form Hitachi Automotive Products USA, Inc. in January.
  • 2016 – HTP-Meds was incorporated, laying the foundation for what would become the High Performance Medical Solutions (HPMS) division.

Modern PCA (2020s)

  • 2021–2024 – Automotive cable production was transitioned from the Indiana and Florida sites to HCQ in Querétaro, Mexico.
