Category 6A DryBit® Indoor/Outdoor

The DryBit® Category 6A indoor/outdoor cable is Proterial Cable America’s purpose-built Ethernet cable for conduit runs that pass through wet locations. Unlike standard outdoor cables, the Cat6A CMP UL verified indoor/outdoor DryBit® Cable eliminates the need for a mid-run transition splice, allowing a single continuous network run from a below-grade or outdoor wet environment directly into plenum spaces indoors. Its no-gel, dry construction means termination is as straightforward as any standard indoor plenum cable.

The DryBit® is UL verified to ANSI/TIA-568.2-E Category 6A, sweep-tested from 1 to 660 MHz, and UL verified for long-term water submersion. All without sacrificing bandwidth or its plenum rating for indoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DryBit® Barrier is a proprietary water-blocking layer integrated into the cable construction that prevents moisture from migrating through the cable, even when the conduit is partially or fully submerged. Unlike gel-filled outdoor cables, the DryBit® Barrier is a dry system, so there is no sticky compound to clean off during termination. It maintains the cable’s electrical characteristics by keeping water away from the insulated conductors, preserving signal integrity over the long term. This is the ultimate harsh environment Cat6A cable.

Conduit that passes through or under a concrete slab is classified as a wet location under NEC 2017 Edition Article 100 and the BICSI TDMM, meaning it is subject to water saturation and heat buildup that will degrade the electrical and physical performance of standard plenum or riser cable over time. The traditional workaround has been to run outdoor-rated cable through the wet section and splice to an indoor-rated cable on the other side, a time-consuming and costly process that the DryBit® Cat6A Indoor/Outdoor cable from Proterial Cable America eliminates entirely, allowing a single continuous run from the wet conduit through to the indoor plenum space.

No. That is the primary advantage of the DryBit® category 6A indoor/outdoor design. Because the cable carries a plenum (CMP) rating, it is listed for use in air-handling spaces and plenum areas indoors, meaning a single continuous cable run can pass from a below-grade or outdoor wet environment directly into the building without any mid-run splice or connectors to a separate indoor cable. It is truly indoor/outdoor plenum rated. This reduces labor time, eliminates potential failure points, and lowers overall installation cost.

The cable is engineered for conduit runs that experience water infiltration, including below-grade conduit, conduit passing through or under concrete slabs, outdoor conduit exposed to rain or standing water, and any pathway classified as a “wet location” under NEC 2017 Article 100. It is UL verified for long-term water submersion (UL B627696), making it suitable for sustained wet exposure rather than occasional moisture contact.

The UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) version relies entirely on the cable’s balanced twisted-pair geometry to manage interference. The F/UTP version adds an overall foil shield integrated with the DryBit® Barrier, which provides additional protection against external electromagnetic interference (EMI). The shielded variant is typically specified in environments with significant electrical noise sources, such as industrial facilities, areas near power cabling, or dense wireless infrastructure deployments.

No. This category 6A copper cable cannot be used for direct burial. The DryBit® 6A indoor/outdoor is designed for conduit-based wet locations. It is not direct burial rated or tested. For direct burial applications, a cable specifically listed and tested for that installation method is required.
