UL-Verified Cat6 Plus™ Enhanced UTP Cable

The Cat6 Plus™ cable is Proterial Cable America’s enhanced-performance category 6 cable. The category 6 Plus™ cable delivers electrical performance that exceeds the ANSI/TIA 568.2-E standard, offering greater signal headroom with fewer limitations than standard category 6.

Cat6 Plus™ offers performance beyond the TIA standard and is RoHS-3 compliant. It is tested from 1 to 555 MHz and UL-verified Category 6, ensuring it meets the requirements for high-performance data transmission. Applications for Cat6+ include gigabit Ethernet, video, HDBaseT, PoE+, and more. Available in a variety of in-stock and custom jacket colors to support color-coded network infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Category 6 meets ANSI/TIA-568.2-D requirements, the Plus™ designation of the Cat6 Plus™ indicates that this cable exceeds the standard minimum requirements. This cable is tested across a wider frequency range (1–555 MHz vs. the standard 1–250 MHz) and delivers guaranteed minimum high-speed performance margins above the TIA baseline. This extra headroom translates to more reliable signal transmission, reduced crosstalk, and greater tolerance for real-world installation variables such as tight bends or long runs.

Cat6 Plus™ Enhanced UTP cable manages electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk through its precision twisted pair construction rather than a metallic shield. Each pair is twisted at a unique rate so that interference signals cancel each other out, a principle known as differential signaling. This is effective in the vast majority of commercial and enterprise environments. However, in installations running near high-voltage conduit, motors, variable frequency drives, or fluorescent lighting ballasts, a shielded cable such as F/UTP or S/FTP may be a more suitable solution. Contact us if you are unsure whether your environment warrants shielded cabling.

Cat6 Plus™ Enhanced UTP Ethernet cable can support 10GbE (IEEE 802.3an) at reduced distances, typically 37–55 meters depending on installation conditions, but is not rated for 10GbE at the full 100-meter channel length due to alien crosstalk limitations inherent to the Category 6 specification. The Cat6 Plus™ cable extended frequency testing to 555 MHz provides more headroom than standard Cat6 cables and may help sustain 10GbE reliability on shorter, less densely bundled runs, but category 6A is the correct specification for guaranteed 10GbE at 100 meters. If your project requires 10GbE to the desktop or is a long-horizon greenfield installation, upgrading to Cat6A cable at rough-in is strongly recommended.

The minimum bend radius for this cable is 4 times the cable’s outer diameter, approximately 0.8 inches (20mm) for a 0.200-inch OD. Exceeding this limit during installation can deform the internal pair geometry, degrade impedance consistency, and cause permanent performance loss that won’t be visible but will be detected by a cable certifier. Pay particular attention to bends at j-hooks, through conduit elbows, and behind patch panels.

The maximum recommended pulling tension for Cat6+ UTP cable is 25 lbf (110 N), per ANSI/TIA-568.2-E installation guidelines. Exceeding this, particularly when pulling long runs through conduit, can stretch the conductors and permanently alter the cable’s electrical characteristics. Use a pull line and a swivel grip rather than pulling directly on the cable jacket, and avoid jerking or shock-loading the cable.

When multiple PoE cables are bundled together, heat generated by DC current flowing through the conductors can accumulate, raising operating temperatures and increasing conductor resistance, which can degrade performance. ANSI/TIA-568.2-E and ISO/IEC TR 29125 address de-rating guidelines for bundled PoE installations. Cat6+’s enhanced performance margins provide additional headroom in these scenarios. For high-density PoE runs, avoid tight bundling, use Velcro ties instead of zip ties, and consider spreading cables across multiple pathways to improve airflow and thermal dissipation.

No, it should not be used in outdoor or direct burial applications. This cable is designed for indoor installation in plenum or riser environments. The Cat6+ cable is not rated for outdoor, prolonged sunlight exposure, direct burial, or wet location use. For exterior or underground runs, a cable with an outdoor-rated jacket (OSP) or direct burial rating is required. Contact us to learn which cable is appropriate for your specific outdoor application.
