Manchester, NH April, 2009 - Hitachi Cable America (HCA), a leading manufacturer of copper and fiber optic cables today announced the availability of its new Stratus-Flex cable, a new singlemode compatible glass cable designed specifically for short distance drops (under 1 km) with extreme bends, twists and loops. Highly suitable for use by telecommunications to enterprise data centers, the Stratus-Flex cable is appropriate for any company installing cables that will subject the cable to many bends, wraps and turns, conditions that prohibit normal singlemode fiber from operating well.
"Hitachi Cable designed this new Stratus-Flex cable for customers who were looking for a cabling solution best suited to short drops that would consistently deliver superior transmission regardless of the installation conditions. In industrial applications for example, it may be flexed, coiled repetitively and subjected to rugged conditions, which makes it highly suitable in particular for field tactical operations and the medical industry. However, it’s also perfect for telecommunications companies installing residential fiber optic cables in tight quarters," explains Joseph Iamartino, Director of New Business Development.
Hitachi offers the Stratus-Flex cable in terminated straight cable assemblies or as terminated coil cords. The coil cord is particularly attractive for electronic manufacturers that build the cable into its electronic network equipment. The cable is able to survive being coiled and uncoiled over an extended period without causing a rise in insertion loss. This unconventional fiber uses 6 tiny holes positioned around the core to channel the light in the core. These holes must be filled during the termination process, and during the initial introduction of the cable, Hitachi Cable will sell the Stratus-Flex cable as completed assemblies with LC or SC connectors. Customers with custom connector requests are asked to call for availability.
